The Makita B05031K Random Orbit Sander features a 5” sanding pad that offers a great blend of fast and smooth sanding. Sporting a 3.0 Amp motor and a random orbiting action which comes in at 1/8” which operates extremely fast but creates a very smooth finish.

The construction of this Makita does a great job with durability which comes standard with three ball bearings versus most random orbital sanders coming with two. One of the three bearings is oversized which has a huge effect on the average lifespan of the sander. Another feature of stability can be seen in the on-off switch which is well-protected from dust.
The variable speed option is very intuitive and is better than most random orbitals. Giving users the ability to change the sanding settings ultimately makes for a much better sanding experience, a better end-product.

One of the biggest drawbacks with the B05031K is a poorly designed dust collection port. The port itself is too small for most vacuum options or makes it too difficult to attach a vacuum all-together. There is dust bag attached, but only holds so much as the ability to add a vacuum attachment would be much better suited. Some consumers have stated that the attached dust collection bag starts to come apart after a few uses.
