The Grizzly G0459 is a tabletop drum sander that is great for small projects, but unable to accommodate larger ones. This Grizzly drum sander can tackle small tables, chair parts, toys, and other pieces of wood not greater than 12 inches wide. It’s powered by a 1 ½ HP motor which is more than enough for an ample amount of sanding power.
The variable speed and hand wheel which allows you to customize the speed and depth is great for getting a precise finish. The 4” sanding drum will hold a sanding belt of 3” x 70”, and can easily be secured using either the hook and loop system. A steel dust hood helps minimize any airborne dust.
Despite the name, this Baby comes in at a hefty 200 pounds which is much heavier than it looks. There are side handles which helps move it from location to location, but at least two people are recommended to move.

Pros
At first sight, it’s hard to not overlook the price which will set you back around $585. The price alone makes it a great choice, and when looking at some of the most common features such as the variable speed, tracking system, and dust collection hood.
Most consumers stated that out of the box the Grizzly G0459 is very easy to set up. The first sanding is precise with minimal adjustments having to be made. For any adjustments, the handwheel which provides the elevation is very responsive and comparable with other high end drum sanders much more expensive.

Cons
One of the most consistent cons we’re hearing about the Grizzly G0459 is the conveyor drive system. Numerous consumers have reported a major design flaw which causes the drive shaft to snap. If this happens within the manufacturer’s warranty which is 1 year it’ll be replaced for free, but outside of the warranty it becomes problematic to get fixed, much less for free. One such consumer states that he went through three motors in a matter month, days, and then hours which brings him to three in total.
Another con with Grizzly’s 12” Baby drum sander is the weight. We would expect to see a Mini come in a lot less than which would make it a true Mini. Coming in about 200 pounds, it resembles that of a full-sized drum sander that a Baby. Aside from the weight, we recommend getting an 18-amp circuit to avoid having to constantly reset the breaker. While the dust collection hood is good, it’s far from great. The 2.5” port is far inferior to a 4” port system.
