The JET 22-440DS Oscillating Drum Sander has a very unique operation which makes it much more than a linear power sander. At the flip of a button, the operator can transform the 22-440DS into an oscillating drum that operates better, and much cooler than most drum sanders. The reduction of heat on the sanding belt also allows it to product less heat and burning.
The specs of this JET drum sander include 20 Amps, 4 dust ports, RPM drum speed of 1,700 1 ¾ HP motor, variable speed and variable control, and a conveyor speed of 0-10SFMP. JET’s SandSmart technology has become widely known for preventing machine overload. The SandSmart feature automatically monitors the speed of the conveyor motor which allows the sander to maintain the optimal speed rate without having to contend with an issues with overload.

The best aspects of the JET 22-44ODS Oscillating Drum Sander goes well beyond how it operates as it provides an all-inclusive workspace. The cabinet provides an ample amount of storage and drawers to have everything you could need within reach. Plenty of power can be found on-board as the 1 ¾ HP motor is a moderate amount. While it’s not the most powerful motor seen in a drum sander, users have found it’s more than sufficient to handle jobs without an issue.
The single best feature is the oscillating drum. This allows you to save a great deal of time and money as you’ll find that you’ll use a lot less sandpaper over-time. The oscillating drum makes it simple to remove lots of stock without with coarse grit paper without causing scratches which are seen with standard drum sanders. There are not many other drum sanders out there with an oscillating feature, and this is by far one of the best.

Cons
Some users have reported hearing a great deal of chatter that seems to get worse the more it’s used. As of this time, there’s been no real resolution for the noise, but it doesn’t seem to change the performance of the drum.
Out of the box, the JET Oscillating drum sander looks impressive, but the weight of the head unit will require some assistance with assembly. Coming in at 250 pounds, it’s definitely not the lightest drum sander on the market. Also, we definitely recommend buying an extension table as the standard table only accommodates wood up to 2’ in length.
